Congratulations to CCM’s Student(s) of the Month, Elin and Asher Yamasaki. We love to see siblings growing up together, learning and playing music! Both Asher and Elin are hard at work preparing for the CCM annual Spring Concert, which will be held at the Santa Clara convention center on Sunday, June 2nd. They will be playing as part of our large guitar orchestra!! Elin takes guitar lessons with Teacher Brad, and Asher takes guitar lessons with teacher Tim at CCM’s Santa Clara location.

A: Elin:  5

A: Elin:  Teacher Brad

Q: What advice would you give to a guitar student just starting out at CCM?
A: Elin:  Don’t look down when you are playing guitar.
A: Asher:  Have good posture so you don’t have a bad back.

Q: What piece are you looking forward to playing someday?
A: Elin:  All of Asher’s songs.
A: Asher:  That song from the recital…  (Jose Luis Merlin - Joropo - Suite Del Recuerdo)

Q: What is your favorite thing about playing the guitar?
A: Elin:  Play nicely
A: Asher:  You are able to strum!

Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Elin:  Pasta!
A: Asher:  Spaghetti and meatballs!

Q: Do you have a pet?
A: Elin:  No
A: Asher:  No

Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: Elin: A fairy doctor
A: Asher:  A mechanical engineer

Q: What is your most memorable experience at CCM?
A: Elin:  Playing my first song
A: Asher:  The first time I touched the guitar

Parent Spotlight - Kyle and Jane

Q: Regarding the guitar, what are you most proud of your children accomplishing? 
A: We are most proud of the our kid’s ability to push through difficult moments on the guitar, for example, during practice and the recital.  It is amazing of what they can do at 5 and 7!

Q: What advice would you give a new parent starting in the program? 
A: Patience, keep smiling, make the time to be fully available for practice (preferably earlier in the day and not before bed), and deep breathing.

Q: Why did you decide to give your child a musical upbringing?
A: We believe that music is gift that they can carry for life, share with others.
