Congratulations to CCM’s December 2018 Student of the Month Shanaya Gupta. Shanaya has been taking guitar lessons at CCM for two years and hasn’t looked back since. She is a dedicated student who practices, and as you will read below, she is well aware of how important daily practice is. We are so proud of her hard work and look forward to watching her grow as a musician. Don’t miss the parent spotlight below as well where her parents Manu and Paritosh give some excellent advice for new CCM families. Q: Regarding the guitar, what are you most proud of your child accomplishing?
Paritosh - I think I am most proud of the sense of joy that I see on Shanaya’s face when she is playing a piece at home. She has truly started enjoying the whole experience of learning guitar and listening to music.
Manu - I am very proud of Shanaya for her dedication to practice Guitar daily. It took us time to get to this stage but now she is very interested in learning Guitar.
Q: What advice would you give a new parent starting in the program?
Paritosh - It takes time for kids to be motivated to practice regularly. It might seem tough in the beginning for parents but they must persevere because once the routine sets in, practicing becomes easier and more rewarding.
Manu - Initially it takes weeks to learn a new piece but as kids practice more, learning becomes more natural. There will definitely be ups and downs but you should be patient with your child. It takes time to develop love for learning Guitar. You should trust your kid’s teacher at CCM. CCM teachers are very talented and they are dedicated to helping your child inculcate love for music and Guitar.
Q: Why did you decide to give your child a musical upbringing?
Paritosh - After Shanaya turned 3, we were exposing her to various different activities and once we started with Guitar, it became part of our family - listening to pieces together, practising with Shanaya and coming to her weekly class. As Shanaya spent more time learning Guitar, we saw her focus and patience improve. She really loves music now and it calms her down and makes her happy.
Manu - Growing up I always wanted to play some musical instrument but I never got an opportunity. So it was very important for me to introduce Shanaya to music. Learning Guitar at CCM has been an amazing experience for us. We have started to understand and appreciate music as a family. Learning and practicing Guitar has become part of our daily routine. It has boosted Shanaya’s self-esteem and helped her become more confident.
